Family Ties

Hi! This  is Candy Worner setting up my new WordPress blog post! I’m excited to be starting this adventure with WordPress. I attended a WordPress workshop in Kansas City recently and strongly advise you to join their community. Everyone was super friendly. I met Dave Navarro there who is now a great mentor and friend for our entire family. He was giving a lecture about FaceBook Live. You can see it on “The Secret Sauce” on and how to use FB Live.

Check him out at: Tech Guru Dave Navarro on FB.

Lol! He is not paying me to tell you about him. He is a really great guy.

This blog is a platform for my many interests which mainly are connected to family in some way. Check out my categories. (in progress)

The picture above is of my (l-r) Mother, Betty Virginia LaHue Martindale LaMar, Uncle “Billy” LaHue, and a little friend. Mom died Nov 2016 and I still miss her dreadfully.

I look forward to your comments and questions. Ask me almost anything! Let me know if you want me to emphasize more of certain categories. I am currently working on a coffee table book about my Uncle Ray LaMar I am going to call it Donuts. Surprise! Lol My Dad, his youngest brother, Eddie LaMar, worked for him for ten years. He fried thousands of donuts! I have some fun family stories in the “Tidbits” category about them. If you have any comments or great stories connected with my Dad, Uncle Ray, and/or donuts let me know!

That’s all for now! I’m busy learning how to use WordPress and adding content.

Blogging Fundamentals & My Family History Project

I’m excited about the lessons for WordPress! I have been thinking about starting a blog since WordPress started and just kept putting it off! Wow! How crazy is that!  Now is the time.! Time to get busy and start my dream businesses. Yes, plural!

I am starting with one of my biggest passions family history. Discovering Genealogy drew me into a fascination with history, photography, writing, researching, cemetery visiting, book publishing and a connection with family in the past that turned into an addictive, exciting adventure.

So my first big project will be a coffee table book about Donuts. Yes! Donuts! My Uncle Raymond LaMar bought the doughnut business he worked at when he came back from WWII and LaMar’s Donuts was born. He became known as “The Donut King” of Kansas City, Missouri.

I would appreciate your stories and photos related to your experiences about LaMar’s Donuts please send them to:

First blog post

Well, I thought this was a first blog lol. Apparently I published something four hours ago. lol Let’s see where this post goes.

Donuts is my main project for awhile. My Uncle Ray owned LaMar’s Donuts. I am a family history buff and am writing a coffee table book about the family and Uncle Ray before the franchise was started.  My Dad, Eddie, his youngest brother worked for him ten years.

I would love to share family stories about the LaMars and/or LaMar donut stories in my book. Contact me about this at so I can keep my notes straight from my other comments.

Love from the LaMars!
