The women in Betty’s family were florists. They heard about a contest on the radio where you won groceries for the best decorated hat. Mom won more that once and so did Aunt Edna, her aunt.
This started a long adoration, for my Mom, of Frank Wizardi, I’m not sure about the spelling of his name, who later became a famous clown in Kansas City called Whizzo. He was in the American Royal Rodeo parade a lot when I was little and we would have to leave very early in the morning so Mom could get a good position on the parade route so she could yell and wave at Whizzo!
